Woodworking and Boat Building are Creative Hobbies

I have a lot of hobbies but two of my favorites are woodworking and boat building. The puzzle aspect of woodworking is what I like about woodworking. Building just about any piece of furniture involves making decisions about how things are going to join up, what materials should be used, and how the whole thing goes together. Even if you are using a plan drawn by someone else, there are still decisions you must make and adjustments or modifications to be made to accommodate the tools you have. In the end, you also end up with a unique piece of art or furniture! Another of my favorite hobbies is boat building. With modern epoxies, very sturdy and beautiful boats can be built at a reasonable cost. As a sailing enthusiast, I enjoy being able to build boats other than the standard Bermuda rigged sloop that is the staple of commercial fiberglass boat design. I recently completed a sprit rigged sailing pram and am considering building a peapod or mackinaw boat next. Building a boat that is just right for your needs is great fun and deeply satisfying.
