My Miracle
My son is celebrating his tenth birthday today. He is a loving, intelligent boy who is a joy to be around. His infancy and toddler hood passed without incident until he was almost two years old. Suddenly he stopped talking refused to eat or drink anything but apple juice and pears. This went on for WEEKS! We were in and out of the doctor’s office so many times we might as well have lived there. Twice we had to rush him to the hospital because he was unresponsive. We were finally able to get him eating again, but the damage had been done. He had been a little chatter box, but now he was silent…no laughing, no talking, no anything…just silence. He didn’t eat anywhere near a normal diet, but he did start to gain weight and grow again. When he was three he was diagnosed with Autism. We were told that he would never play normally, pretend, have friends or do all the other things that a “typical” child does. We got him into the special preschool offered at our local elementary school and hoped for the best. Well, he is now ten years old and has proven everyone wrong! He has done everything the doctors said he wouldn’t do and more. He has been upgraded to Asperger’s, is in a “regular” classroom and was even on a Destination Imagination team this last school year. He is an inspiration to everyone who knows him and is a testament to the power of prayer.
