My favorite meals have always been easy to prepare and even easier to eat; sandwiches rank an all-time high for love. My current favorite, and therefore something I eat for any meal quite often, is comprised of two parts: Asparagus and rice. Simple, yes? I have been cooking rice for so long (and without any fancy rice-cooker) that I have it down to an art. I’ll tell you now: The box always lies when it comes to the required water. The asparagus. Oh, the asparagus. It is a crying shame that I never enjoyed it until more recently. I always cut my spears in half, mostly because they fit in my pot that way. I boil them for a few minutes, just to tenderize, then I drain and transfer them to a frying pan, where they are promptly fried in a concoction of soy butter and lemon juice. It. Is. Godly.

Indeed, Christmas is my favorite holiday, like so many others. I believe, though, that my spirit for Christmas is a bit skewed from the normal perception. I don’t celebrate it for its original, religious intentions, and the economy has battered receiving presents down to a heap of wrapping paper and tape with not much inside. Nor is it about spending time with family and loved ones, as I have few of those near me and even fewer that I can stand to spend any real time with. No, for me, giving is really where I’m at. I enjoy it more than anything else, and though I partake in it as often as possible and in as many ways as possible, the spirit of the season really lights a fire under me. I always tend to break my bank around this time, as I’m sure many do, but it still amazes me in the end how I managed to find so much money around my bills when the rest of the year seems to have no pocket change for even ordering dinner. It must be magic~

Food was interjected at some point, but I couldn’t even tell you when. When I finally separated myself from the myriad of blinking windows on Windows Live, I drug myself out to the living room to watch a movie about an old guy killing gang members. Of course, about five minutes after I settled down, my laptop called to me and I allowed it to join me in watching the old guy kick some serious butt. This led to dinner (ravioli, homemade sauce, and fried okra; oh, my!), a bath, and more computer time. Now, I’m looking at my clock and realizing that it’s 7:30 in the morning and time for bed. Well, that was quite a satisfying day.
