I bleed Panther blue, baby! In 1999 I moved to China. Five years later, they showed the first NFL game they had shown since 1982. It was a Super Bowl. Patriots vs. Panthers. Monday morning in my time zone. I used an alarm clock during my vacation. I only turned the sound on during that halftime mascot feature to listen to Madden, Fisher, Cowher, etc. with Chinese subtitles. I spent the rest of the halftime break making coffee, using the bathroom, microwaving some food, etc. That’s right, young adolescent males, I missed Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction. Possibly they didn’t show it here, since I read somewhere there was a one-hour tape delay I didn’t know about. You have Daylight Savings Time and we don’t, so sometimes we’re 12 hours ahead of EST and sometimes we’re 13 hours ahead, and I get confused.

Last night, I cooked dinner. I am trying to eat more healthfully, so I started with whole wheat penne. It was really good, which surprised me. For the sauce, I began by sautéing ground turkey sausage with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. I set aside the sausage and browned a head and a half of garlic in butter in the same pan. To that, I added some chopped spinach, just until it started to wilt. I poured in a large can of small diced tomatoes and stirred. I simmered that with more salt, more pepper, a little cayenne, some oregano, and some basil. I sat down to eat and paired my pasta with a slice of whole wheat bread that had been slathered with butter and roasted garlic and then broiled. It was delicious, all of it.
My daily routine is pretty set, at least on the weekdays. I wake up at 5:30, and go let the dog out. While she is outside, I hop on the internet for a minute to see if there are any pressing emails to read right away, or any big sports news that happened overnight. Then, I shower and wash my face. After that, I eat breakfast (cereal, peanut butter on toast, a banana, and a glass of milk), and go online, checking my emails, Facebook, etc. After that, I blow dry my hair, pick out my outfit for the day, and put on makeup.
