A book I have been given which I always return to reread is an edition of the trilogy by Dave Pelzer (containing the stories A Child Called ‘It’, The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave). These books follow the harrowing early life of Dave in which he suffered mental and physical abuse by his Mother and charts his progress through the foster home system and eventually on to his life as an adult. Although, at times, it can be a hard read, this book continues to inspire me and provides hope that a person is not their past. I definitely recommend you have a read as I have given this book to numerous friends and they have felt similar to me. As someone who works with children from disadvantaged areas, this book will always underline, for me, the fact that a child always has a bright future if they can find people who will support and believe in them.

When to Consider an Orthopedic Dog Bed

February 27th, 2010 admin Comments off

Orthopedic dog beds should be considered for a variety of reasons.  If your dog is getting older and showing signs of stiffness or having trouble getting up, it is certainly the time to start looking at orthopedic dog beds.  Older dogs can have problems with arthritis and can develop hip dysplasia.  This causes pain and soreness, just like arthritis does with humans.  Everyone knows how lying down in a comfy bed helps these symptoms.  Also, the dog that is recovering from surgery is made more comfortable in an orthopedic bed.  Larger breed dogs are another category that really enjoys having a comfortable bed to support their larger bodies evenly.  Some orthopedic beds come in memory foam and some are even heated.  It is definitely worth checking into these beds to make your dog feel comfortable and content.

Okay Blue Jays!

February 24th, 2010 admin Comments off

My favorite baseball team is the Toronto Blue Jays. They play in the American League East, and started play in 1977. Originally, the team played at Exhibition Stadium. In 1985, the Toronto Blue Jays won their first American League East crown. After going up three games to one against the Kansas City Royals, they went on to lose three straight and lose the series (Royals went on to win the World Series that year). In 1989, the Blue Jays would move into their new (and current home) called the Rogers Center (originally called Skydome). It’s a 53,000 retractable roof domed stadium. In 1992, the Toronto Blue Jays won their first World Series title, defeating the Atlanta Braves. The next year, the Jays would also win the World Series, this time defeating the Philadelphia Phillies on a Joe Carter home run. Unfortunately, the Toronto Blue Jays haven’t been back to the post season since, but with their young and talented roster, the future looks very promising.
